The three Volumes of Reflections on Automotive History deal with automotive
history subjects that are wide ranging and diverse, such as the emergence
of the world's first car, the development of the moving automobile assembly
line, and the evolution of electronic powertrain management. There are
overviews of the North American, European and Asian automotive industries,
as well as historical descriptions of many individual cars, companies,
vehicle types and technologies.
Also included are biographical outlines of a broad selection of people,
from Carl Benz to Henry Ford, from Soichiro Honda to Charles Kettering,
and from W. Edwards Demming to Alexander Issigonis, men who made significant
contributions to the international automobile industry. Such associated
social developments as suburbia, the fast food industry, highway systems,
road-side advertising, and tourist accommodation are woven into these
rich books.
The Reflections books are well researched, authoritative, quality non-fiction
written in a reader friendly style. They are interesting, informative
and timeless, and will make a valuable contribution to the libraries of
not only automotive enthusiasts, but also those interested in history,
and the automobile's place in it.

Bill Vance is an acclaimed automotive journalist/historian
who has covered the full spectrum of automotive subjects. Over his many
years of writing and research he has developed an in-depth knowledge of
the automobile's history and technology. Currently his popular automotive
history column is syndicated widely to newspapers in Canada and the United
States, and his Motoring
Memories can be seen on CanadianDriver.com.
Bill was editor of Carguide, one of Canada's leading automotive consumer
magazines, for three years, and associate editor for nine years. He has
contributed to a wide variety of consumer and trade magazines in Canada
and the United States
In the mid-1990s an international jury was formed to select the car of
the twentieth century. It was based in Amsterdam, and the 130 journalist-historian
members came from 30 countries. Bill was one of three Canadian members
of this jury that selected the Ford Model T as the Car of the Century.
He is a graduate of McMaster University, a charter member of the Automobile
Journalists Association of Canada, and a member of the Society
of Automotive Historians. He lives in Rockwood, Ontario, Canada, with
his business partner and wife, Beth Mason.

"Through his meticulously researched, genuinely useful and eminently
readable books, and syndicated automotive history column, Bill Vance has

"Accurate, informative, and a pleasure to read."
... Bill Sherk, member, Canadian Automotive
Historians, and published author
"Bill Vance and I share a common beginning in writing about automotive
history. We both began writing in the Reflector, the bi-monthly magazine
of the Antique and Classic Car Club of Canada. That was in the 1960s.
(goodness, the cars built then have been antiques for years!).
Since our early hesitant beginnings, we have gone in different writing
directions. He has directed much of his efforts to the general public,
while I have stayed within the car hobby. Also, Bill has been more prolific.
Despite his volume, though, he has been very solid. His research is thorough,
and his style both interesting and humorous.
Reflections, Volumes I, II and III, show Bill's keen and clear understanding
of the automotive industry through the years. The proof of his excellent
ability and quality is the fact that Bill's weekly syndicated column appears
in so may popular newspapers across Canada and also in the United States,
and has for many years.
He is widely recognized as one of Canada's top automotive historians,
a position well earned."
... R. Perry Zavitz, member, Society of Automotive
Historians, Canadian Automotive Historians, and published author
